The Media Project Wuppertal has since 1992 successfully conceptualized and realized projects as models for active video production by young people. It has placed itself under the slogan „the best video possible for the broadest public available“. Within very short time, the „Media Project“ has developed to become the biggest and most ambitious institution for video productions of young people in Germany.
Teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 and 28 are supported in a result-oriented manner in the production of their own videos, either within the framework of pedagogic institutions or independently. Their videos are then presented in cinemas, schools, youth institutions or similar places in Wuppertal and distributed as educational materials in Germany or at the international level. All projects serve the goals of active media education and the creative expression of young people’s esthetic attitudes, opinions, concepts and purposes of life.
The videos are distributed in Germany in our edition and, as such, reach several 100 000 spectators. Due to their professional form and the authentic denseness of their contents, the videos produced by young people in Wuppertal are the most widely watched video productions of young people in Germany. In the course of the last years, they have been awarded prizes at all major regional, national and European youth video festivals. They are also regularly broadcasted by all TV stations. The model concepts developed in Wuppertal have been transferred to and applied in many other cities nation-wide in the course of the last years.
